Structures, Monsters, and Grains: A Career Retrospective from Professor Ioannis Votsis
An inaugural lecture taking place on 14 May 2026
This week’s post in The Computational Philosopher invites you to the inaugural professorial lecture of Ioannis Votsis, a core member of the Computational Philosophy Lab. Details below. All are welcome, and we look forward to seeing many of you there!
DATE: Thursday, 14 May 2026
TIME: 17:00 - 18:30
LOCATION: Room 121, Devon House, 58 St Katharine’s Way, London E1W 1LP
Title: “Structures, Monsters, and Grains: A Career Retrospective”
Abstract: In this inaugural professorial lecture, I take a step back and try to make sense of the whole span of my research. Beyond summarising the main contributions, I aim to uncover non-obvious connections in this body of research across the various areas (e.g. Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of AI, and Meta-Philosophy) and the specific topics (e.g. structural realism, the theory-ladenness of observation, and ad hoc-ness) that I’ve worked on over the years. In keeping with tradition, the lecture will be pitched at an accessible level. All are warmly welcome to attend.
